Three weeks ago... AN EVENT happened; something a little too complicated and a little too raw and a little too personal to say here - that and it's still mushrooming out in stages, but some major events have happened over the last three weeks.
For nine days we were homeless and lived out of a hotel, but the two of us didn't just sit on our laurels, after we unpacked most of the emotional wreck of THE EVENT we have found a new place to live. It's an apartment in a complex of apartments - rent is basically a mortgage payment on top of electric, gas, and cable, but we crunched the numbers and we can afford it. THE EVENT left us with basically just the clothes on our back and a couple of laptops and the Switch, and so on top of putting a downpayment on the apartment and the hotel stay we bought exactly three pieces of furniture: beds, a couch, and a dining set.
But, in the end, though we wish THE EVENT went very, very differently, this is a distinctly positive change. Every day we wake up an smile, which we haven't done in a very, very long time; the sun rises and gives us a new adventure - what do we want to put on that wall, or how do we work around this new problem, and we don't have to worry about... other things. Eventually we have to go back and get the rest of our things, but for now we're in a very good place, and the two of us are sighing in relief and excited for the new road we're taking.
And damn it I don't have my tablet. It'll be a while before there's a new painting for me. I hope to get it back before summer vacation starts but if my painting starts late that's why.
We look forward to the new lives we're going to live, and we step forward with bright anticipation.
