A little over an hour.

Oh, look, fanart. This should surprise no one. Anime fanart no less so yeah...

Here we have Sakaki Haruto from the series Witch Hunter Robin. This kid has the certified WORST LUCK in the entire series. If you need someone conveniently in trouble, hurt, or in danger of their life, you turn to this guy. It's actually a little funny; and what sells it is he's so earnest and determined to do his best. It's a shame there isn't more screen time with him (because of le soap opera surrounding the main character).

This was practice of drawing without a reference. In the end he looks suspiciously like a certain favorite character of mine (and any and all YST fans know exactly who I'm talking about... ;) ), but bishounen, or "pretty boys," have a limited facial structure in anime and generally fall into one of two or three models. After that the only thing that really varies is the shape of the hair, eyes, and eyebrows.

I'm not sure that poor Sakaki looks particularly great, but for a speedpaint that didn't use any references, it was good practice for facial structures.

Things I like: The nose, given that now that I'm swinging back to more "realisitic" styles noses have been giving me a lot of trouble, Sakaki's nose came out pretty good, and has taught me a lot on how to get noses to "look" like noses. Similarly, I was smart (for once?) and did the eyes on separate layer; it took some trial and error but I like how they came out.

Things I don't like: The lack of contrast on the face. You can really see the lights and darks on his hair and jacket, but his face doesn't have the strong chiaroscuro that the rest of the piece does. Background is also fail (and how sad is it that ABSTRACT backgrounds fail with me without a reference....?)

As always, let me know what you think.
